Historic Data Loss

T-Mobile - 17 November '09

It has been revealed that staff from one of the major mobile phone companies in the UK have sold on records of thousands of customers.

A brief summary of the data loss is shown below:

Employees unlawfully selling personal data to third parties.

It is alleged that brokers purchased the information for substantial sums.

The firm involved alerted the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), who in turn, is planning to prosecute those involved. A team from the ICO subsequently entered the premises and has interviewed employees.

The specific details of the case have not been revealed to prevent any prejudice of a future trial.
