Writ Of Fi Fa

This is another remedy after judgment which a lender can seek once it has judgment, to obtain payment of outstanding debt. This can only be issued for the full amount of the Judgment debt and is a requirement for any execution on a Judgment debt of above £5,000.

A writ of fi. Fa. (short for the Latin term fieri facias) is the High Court equivalent of a warrant of execution, after a Judgment has been obtained in a legal action for a debt or damages. It is an order to the Authorised High Court Enforcement Officer to seize and sell your possessions. A writ of fi fa can only be issued for the full judgment debt and must be for a minimum of £600 (no maximum).

Statutory interest and Court fees may also be added to the original Judgment amount when the writ of fi.fa. is issued. Unlike a warrant of execution, no notice is required to be given.
